“And when I looked back at my life, when I looked back at it all, I clearly saw how bad times really meant everything, and how every moment that lead [sic] me to happiness revolved around some kind of terrible darkness. Sometimes the darkness was a beautiful thing and sometimes it took me to a place where I had no idea where it could go, but I knew it was all meant to be okay.” ~ r. m. drake

Be With Those Who Help Your Being

Be with those who help your being.
Don’t sit with indifferent people, whose breath
comes cold out of their mouths.
Not these visible forms, your work is deeper.

A chunk of dirt thrown in the air breaks to pieces.
If you don’t try to fly,
and so break yourself apart,
you will be broken open by death,
when it’s too late for all you could become.

Leaves get yellow. The tree puts out fresh roots
and makes them green.
Why are you so content with a love that turns you yellow?   ~ Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi

Insomniac

There are some nights when
sleep plays coy,
aloof and disdainful.
And all the wiles
that I employ to win
its service to my side
are useless as wounded pride,
and much more painful. ~ Maya Angelou

“A positive attitude is not going to save you. What it’s going to do is, everyday, between now and the day you die, whether that’s a short time from now or a long time from now, that every day, you’re going to actually live.” ~ Elizabeth Edwards
