In any case, the quote struck me because we exist in a world where, in many places, including the United States, similarly situated women make less than men, for equal work. In come countries, women are unable to even hold the same jobs as men. Therefore, it is important, no crucial, that each of us women serve as role models for young girls and young women everywhere. This quote reminds us that they are looking up to us to guide their way.
In bathrooms, boardrooms, buses, bagel shops, and everywhere else, we all need to imagine a little girl following us around, repeating everything we do. Think about all the things you want for yourself and your daughters, granddaughters, and girls everywhere–teach them by living it yourself. ~Nell Merlino, in Stepping Out of Line Lessons For Women Who Want It There Way in Love, in Life, and at Work.
